Ice Blacks Team Staff Announcement

We are writing to share a special announcement regarding the New Zealand Ice Blacks.

Head Coach Anatoly Khorozov, and Assistant Coach Andreas Kaisser, have decided to step aside for the upcoming 2023/2024 World Champion season, and we would like to express our gratitude and acknowledge their contributions to the team.

Both Anatoly and Andreas have dedicated numerous years of loyal service to the Ice Blacks and wider ice hockey community, establishing themselves as truly respected coaches of the game in New Zealand.

Their decision to relinquish their roles has not been taken lightly and they believe it is time for a change in direction and a fresh perspective for our national senior men’s team.

Head coach Anatoly Khorozov stated, “the time is right for a new vision,” emphasizing the importance of embracing new ideas and approaches. Similarly, assistant coach Andreas Kaisser shared his sentiments, remarking, “it has been an absolute pleasure and honor to serve past and present players over many years. The future is very bright, and I am excited to witness the emergence of new talent”.

The New Zealand Ice Hockey Federation wishes to extend its heartfelt appreciation to both Anatoly and Andreas for their many years of dedication and service. Their efforts have resulted in securing many IIHF medals, including promotion to IIHF Division 2 and two Winter Games series wins over Australia, all of which will forever be recorded in the annals of ice hockey history.

Despite stepping down from their current roles, both Andreas and Anatoly will continue to contribute their expertise to the New Zealand ice hockey community. Their significant roles in growing and developing the game nationwide will remain pivotal and we are grateful for their continued support in propelling ice hockey in New Zealand to greater heights.

Soon, we will be announcing the Ice Black interim coaches for the 2023/24 season. The NZIHF is committed to appointing individuals who will carry forward the team’s legacy while injecting new energy and strategies into our game.

Once again, we extend our deepest appreciation to Anatoly Khorozov and Andreas Kaiser for their contributions to the Ice Blacks and New Zealand ice hockey.
